United States Policy Updates

UPDATED July 2025 U.S. Trans Policy Briefing: Click here for an update on the most recent policies affecting transgender youth. From gender-affirming care to sports polices to schools, understand the current political climate in this summary. We have also broken down where to receive pediatric gender-affirming care by state— particularly if your state has a ban— and have provided a long list of additional resources going forward. We hope to update this monthly in the future. Reach out with questions (jett@transyouthequality.org or contact@transyouthequality.org).

We are devastated about the Supreme Court Ruling in United States Vs. Skrmetti (2025) shared on June 18, 2025. Decisions relating to gender-affirming care should always be made between a patient, their family, and their doctor, not by the state. We will continue to support and fiercely advocate for the rights of transgender youth, especially within medical decision-making. To trans youth: we are here for you, and you are so loved! 💜

This decision impacts trans kids in Tennessee, but also transgender and non-binary youth in the other 25 states that either completely or partially ban gender-affirming care for transgender minors (under 18) in the United States. We strongly support access to gender-affirming care for youth, as do the major medical associations in the United States (including the AMA). We promise to continue to fight these discriminatory policies and support transgender kids in their journeys to be themselves.

If you or your family members are residents of a state that prohibits gender-affirming care for minors and cannot afford to travel out-of-state, please look into the Emergency Fund on our website below. For more information and resources, please visit our “legal resources” page.
