The Trans Youth Equality Foundation has sponsored fabulous retreats in the past, both in summer and fall. Historically, these retreats have been “urban retreats” hosted in downtown Portland, Maine, for all gender non-conforming and transgender youth ages 9 -18. We are excited to announce the foundation will begin to host annual summer and fall retreats in the beautiful Maine woods! It is time to sign up.
The date for our Summer Retreat is here! We tried to accommodate as many people as we could, and at this time the retreat will be July 13 – July 15, 2012. The details of drop off and pick up times will be announced at a later date, along with additional paperwork.
Please remember that the location of this camp cannot be shared with anyone besides your child and their immediate family. We need to rely on your confidentiality for the safety of our children. Our retreats will now be held on a beautiful pond in the Maine woods, at a camp that has been providing summer nature programs for youth for decades. It has160 forested acres, with outdoor classrooms, beautiful log cabins with beds, facilities and a full kitchen. The camp will be exclusively ours for these dates.
With this retreat, our goal is to help gender non-conforming and transgender youth develop confidence, self-reliance, and learn a sense of stewardship for the outdoors. We will continue to incorporate our very popular support groups, legal, medical, and educational advocacy workshops, and our trans-specific conversations and down time alongside our time in nature.
Our outstanding staff is trained in transgender issues and concerns. There will also be fully trained medical staff present at all times.
The cost of the camp is $150 and registration and payment is due by May 25th to hold a spot. There will be a limited number of scholarships available based upon multiple criteria. If you are interested, let us know and we will forward you a scholarship form. Please contact us if you would like to sponsor another child – it would be a generous and amazing gift for a trans child that otherwise may not be able to afford to go.
Send your kids to Maine to enjoy the natural world and bond with other transgender children and our great staff! |
